Dental implants are excellent replacements for missing teeth. They not only replace the crown of the tooth but also the root of the tooth with a titanium post that is placed directly into the jawbone. You jawbone grows around the post. This helps the implant remain firm and increases the strength of your jaw. Your implant can be brushed and flossed just like a natural tooth and can last a lifetime with proper care.

Most people are excellent candidates for implants. However, there may be some people who may need to consider other replacement options. Pregnant women and young people whose jaws have not stopped growing may have to wait for dental implants. People who do not have healthy gums or enough jawbone to support an implant may need to choose another replacement, or have surgery to repair or augment their gums or jaws. People living with diabetes, immune system issues, or hemophilia may not be good candidates for implants. If you use tobacco, or are a heavy smoker or drinker, dental implants may not be for you.

Our dentist, Asad Ahsan can tell you if your implants are right for you. Even if you are not an implant candidate, there are other tooth replacement options that may work for you. If you would like to know more, you can call Vital Dental in McKinney, Texas at (972) 347-0945 today.
